The city of Atlanta is known for many things – our music culture alone has swept the world over with profound influence on style, aesthete, and technique. And everyone knows (and loves) Atlanta’s southern cuisine, be it fast or slow – Chic-Fil-A, The Varsity, and Empire State South have the rest of the culinary world scrambling to keep up with popular demand for southern fried hospitality. But when it comes to fashion, Atlanta has been uncharacteristically shy, and the fastidious fashionistas of the world have focused instead on confident extroverted cities like Paris and London, New York and Tokyo, Seoul and Hong Kong. And who can blame them? New York Fashion Week floods our Instagram feeds for a solid week every year, while our own city’s catwalks often go neglected.
A few years ago, if you typed “Atlanta Street Fashion” into the Pinterest search bar, your query would be met with a void. There was not a single pin about Fashion in Atlanta. A google search would reveal little else, and it seemed that our city had given up on ever walking the metaphorical runways of the fashion world.
This brings us to modern day Atlanta, with its very own International Fashion Week July 28th – Aug 2nd 2015, premiere fashion bloggers like My Style Vita and the Atlanta Street Fashion Blog, and even honorable mentions in fashion publications like InStyle.
Type “Atlanta Fashion” into google now and you’ll be met with a full page of results – including the new SCAD Fashion Museum and upcoming events like the sold out 2nd Annual “VogueAtlanta” Charity Fashion Show.
So in the spirit of this newfound flare for all things fashion, check out these tips and trends from Atlanta’s own local fashion experts and join us in celebrating all things #AtlantaFashion.
